I have the honor to forward you the following [[strikethrough]] copy of [[/strikethrough]] extract from a letter - rec'd at this Office from Head Quarters, Bureau R.F.&A.L - Washington
"Mrs Martha B. Saunders, Norfolk Va states that she is holding her house on a lease from the Freedman's Bureau - desires that it be unconditionally returned to her - Has subscribed to the oath of Allegiance - not the Amnesty Oath - Makes oath that she has not in (any) way abetted, or aided the Rebellion, that she left her house before the War, on account of her health, by advice. Her husband was in the U.S. Navy during the Mexican War - and that he lost his life by reason of exposure - &c -
