To Capt Charles B Wilder USA In charge of Refugee Freedmen &c for the county of Elizabeth City.

The petition of Edmund E Lange of the county aforesaid respectfully represents that he is a loyal citizen of the United States and has taken the oath prescribed by the President of the U.S. in his proclamation of the 29 May 1865. as appears by paper A herewith filed.
That all proceedings against his land in this county have been dismissed by the United States Dist Court for Va which officer by certificates of the clerk of that court herewith filed marked B.B that he is not worth twenty thousand of taxable property which the court aforesaid was satisfied of before it entered the order of dismissal aforesaid.
The land piece of land in the only property he has & he is now with his family without a home living at the house of a friend. The said land as expressly described in said certificate B.B. but as [[?]] stated in the certificates of the clerk of the county court of said county. herewith filed marked C. as evidence of his ownership.
There are only two small cabins on the said place occupied by freedmen Your petitioner understands his land is now under the control of the Freedmens Bureau. he prays that the same be restored to him.
