The undersigned, Mary Savage, and J.F.J. Mitchell (her son) of Nansemond County Virginia, respectfully ask that the farm in Nansemond County, near to and adjoining Bernard's Mill and Wm. B. Whitehead's lands and known as the "Savage or Mitchell" farm be restored to them -

These lands belong as follows - The fee simple title to the undersigned J.F.J. Mitchell and the claim of owner therein to said Mary Savage, and were occupied previous to the war by said Mary Savage until 1862 when she rented the same to Mr. [[strikethrough]] Wm H. [[/strikethrough]] Albert Andrews, her tenant, who occupied & cultivated the same until forced away by the U.S. Army in 1863 - That these lands were never unoccupied or abandoned by the parties, but on the contrary as above stated were left in possession of a tenant as aforesaid.

The undersigned took the oath required by Mr Lincolns proclamation of pardon & have again taken the oath required by the proclamation of 29th May 1865.

That there has been no title acquired to these lands by the United States
