Norfolk Oct 26 1865

This is to Certify that I John G Merton have Known Wm. M Peyton the President of the Norfolk Oil Works, who has swindled me of one thousand dollars he justly owes me & I have made diligent search for him & find he went to England & there died some two years since I get this from a friend of mine who saw said Peyton in London & who died there I knew he was a violent Rebel against the Govt of the United States I also Know P.F. Schliecker who was
the Agent of said Company & the Treasurer & believe he is a great
looser by the said William Wm M Peyton
