This is to Certify that P. H. Schliecker of City Norfolk was the Advancing Agent for the Norfolk oil works before I left Norfolk. That I have due me some thirty-three hundred Dollars & it a part for the purchase of some iron kettles which now remain in ruins which I could not collect & which amt & my accts I left with my Agent & the Secty of this oil Co. H.E. Jackson to attend to its collection when it was possible but he died & every thing was destroyed by fire. I am a share owner & have paid the full amount in One thousand Dollars & that I have never received one cent dividend from said Co & that all the Share holders & parties interested are prominent actors in Rebel Villiany & that part of my stock I left in Bank & that is not to be found presumed it was taken to Richmond with other papers &c.

That said much are in ruins & all remains thereof is from cracked iron kettles & they unfit for use the place is rented to a Colored man at $2 per mo. When I could get two hundred a year for a Brewery & the occupant has destroyed tanks & removed Bricks & loose iron to the great loss to me.

Given under my hand & seal this 30th day of July AD 1864
