State of Virginia,
City of Richmond, County of Henrico, to wit:
This day personally appeared before me George A. Pearce, a Notary Public for said City in the State aforesaid Mathew J Mussen and took the several oaths required by act of the Legislature, passed June 22nd, 1865, which said oaths are in the following words, to wit:-
"I do solemnly Swear in the presence of Almighty God, that I will henceforth faithfully support, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and the union of the States thereunder; and that I will in like manner abide by and faithfully support all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion, with reference to the emancipation of slaves. And I do solemnly swear that I will uphold and defend the Government of Virginia, as restored by the Convention which assembled at Wheeling on the 11th day of June, 1861."
