disapproving the petition of Mr. Shippen & its occupation by him - Mr. Shippen has nothing in the world that I know of now but this farm nets probably about $3000. to $5000.-

Mr Shippen was never in the war was born and reared in Philadelphia where his Father now lives and where he has resided nearly all his life - Mr. Shippen's brother was a surgeon in the Federal army 'till the close of the war.

I merely mention these facts to show you that Mr. Shippen was always a true and loyal man to the Government of the United States, and for that reason kept out of the So called Confederate Army I am induced to write you this letter I assure you for no fee or demand but because I received a letter from Dr. Shippen yesterday asking information about the property of his son who with his wife (very much diseased) are now with him - and I promised him to do so - as to my loyalty to the Government of the U.S. Refer you to everybody who knows me here and in Richmond - Please write me on the subject that I may enclose copy to Dr. S. & Mrs. S.

Most Respectfully
Alexander Donnan
