The House and Lot herein referred to is listed on the Commissioners Books to the Estate of Frederick W. Southgate deceased. He died in June 1853 without a Will leaving a Widow now Mrs Angelina E. Johns and an only child the within named John Southgate then eleven years of age. I was the administrator of F W. Southgate and Guardian of his son, and as Guardian received Rent for two thirds of the said premises until my ward attained his full age in March 1863. His mother was entitled to the remaining third of the rent for her dower interest. The title of my late ward was acquired by descent from his father as his sole heir at law. He acquired it by deed from Wright Southgate in 1839. The assessed value of the property in 1860 was $8500. See Clerks Certificate filed with Mrs Johns petition.
