This Indenture made this twelveth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine, between Wright Southgate of the Borough of Norfolk and State of Virginia of the one part and Frederick W. Southgate of the said Borough and State of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Thirteen Thousand Dollars to the said Wright Southgate in hand paid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, he the said Wright Southgate Hath granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents Doth grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff and confirm to the said Frederick W Southgate a certain piece or parcel of land situate, lying and being in the Borough of Norfolk, bounded as follows "Beginning on the east side of Granby Street at a point distant sixty feet from Courtney Street, which point is a corner of a lot conveyed to James Thoburn by Fortiscue Whittle, thence running northwardly up Granby Street sixty feet, thence parallel with Courtney Street ninety four feet to a ten feet lane, thence parallel with Granby Street sixty feet, thence to the beginning" And one other piece "beginning on the east side of the said lane at a point Sixty feet distant from Courtney Street, thence northwardly along the lane sixty feet, thence parallel with Courtney Street to Tripoli Street one hundred feet thence towards Courtney Street on Tripoli Street sixty feet, thence to the beginning one hundred feet" the said pieces of land being the same conveyed to the said Wright Southgate by Fortiscue Whittle and Mary Ann his wife by deed bearing date the second day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifteen and of record in the court of Norfolk Borough, To Have
