We do hereby certify that the Revd John A. Strachan  Came to [[Strikethrough]] my [[/Strikethrough]] our mothers house in Chesterfield County on the night of the 5th day of May 1864 with his family, stating that he wished to get them out of danger as they had been very much exposed sometime in the year 1862 by shells from the United States Gun Boats and that it was his intention to return to his farm he was prevented from doing so. by the retreating Confederate Forces  Our Mothers farm about 3 miles from Mr Strachans near Point Walthall
