The petition of Augustine M. Tabb, President, and H. Wootten, W. Read and D. J. Godwin, Directors, of the Portsmouth Building Association, of the City of Portsmouth and State of Virginia, respectfully represent, that they are the President and Directors of an incorporated Company, in the City of Portsmouth, known as the Portsmouth Building Association, consisting of twenty five (25) shares, owned by various individuals, including your petitioners, that this association was organized in the year 1856 by act of the legislature of Virginia and that the property of said association consists of six houses & lots, built by said association, together with eight or ten unimproved lots, all situated in the said city of Portsmouth, That the Officers of this association, your petitioners, & as far as their knowledge goes, every member of the association, have taken & subscribed the Amnesty Oaths prescribed by the late President
