Sir - 

I respectfully ask to be restored the possession of a lot of land in the town of Hampton, Elizabeth city county, State of Virginia. Said lot is on North or Hospital Street, which forms its eastern boundary and is bounded on the North by the lot of M'rs Susan Elliott on the south by the lot of M'rs Bainbridge and is held by the Freedmens Bureau as captured and abandoned property. 

I have the honour to state that at the breaking out of the late rebellion. I was in the city of Boston and have never lived within the lines of the "so called," Southern confederacy." The lot in question is all the property I possess, and I desire to get possession of it in order that it may contribute to my support. This paper will be handed to you by M'r. Marion Colbert of Hampton, to whom you will please direct or deliver your reply [[strikethrough]] reply [[/strikethrough]]- as I have authorized and empowered him to rent out my lot, should it be your pleasure to restore it to my possession.

I hereby certify that the restoration of my property will not cause suffering to the "Freedmen," as their are none living on it, nor inconvenience the operations of the Freedmens Bureau.
