Portsmouth V'a Sep't 29th 1865.

Your petitioner John L Thomas of the City of Portsmouth, State of Virginia would beg leave most respectfully to represent that the estate owned by him now or previous to the war did not amount in value or exceed in value the sum of Twenty thousand $20000 Doll's and consisted of a house and lot in the City of Portsmouth on the East side of Green Street, between County and King streets. and valued by the City assessment at Nine hundred $900 Doll's. Nor does he come under any of the exceptions of the President's proclamation of the 29th day of May 1865. Your petitioner has taken the amnesty oath under said proclamation, a Copy of which is herewith filed and beged to be taken as part of this application. He has not been engaged either in the Army or Navy of the so Called Confederate States but his pursuits during the late Rebellion have been entirely of a Civic nature. My age is thirty nine years 

He claims to be a loyal citizen and prays that restitution of this property hereinbefore described may be made to him. And your petitioner will ever pray.
