I Thomas Cunningham of the City of Norfolk, do hereby certify, That at the breaking out of the present war I was residing in the town of Hampton Virginia, and had resided there all my life. That I am well acquainted with Wm Samuel Tompkins, who at the same time resided in the town of Hampton, and had resided there or in the neighborhood, from his infancy. That at the breaking out of the present war, the said Wm Samuel Tompkins was, and for fifteen years and upwards before that time had been, the owner of two or more lots of land with improvements thereon in the town of Hampton; and which were destroyed by fire. The said lots were situated on the South side of Queen street, and adjoined the lot of Mrs Hall
Given under my hand this 28th day of December 1864.
