Isle of Wight County Va.
August 17, 1865.

Lieutenant
John H. Keatly A.A.Q.M & Asst Supt Freedmen, Norfolk

Sir.
I respectfully request that you will approve and forward the following Petition for the possession of my house and lot No. 32 Bank Street, Norfolk, which has been seized by the Freedman's Bureau, under the erroneous impression that it was the property of Wm. Wilson of Norfolk, who is not in any manner whatever, and never was, interested in the said house and lot, which is exclusively my own property:- This will more fully appear by reference to the certificate of the Assessor of the City of Norfolk hereto annexed; and also to the certificate of said Wm. Wilson declaring that I am, and that he is not, and never was (in whole or in part), owner of the said house and lot, or in possession of it.

I am a loyal citizen of the United States: my home is Smithfield, Virginia, I am a widow, my husband having died before the war, leaving me six children, dependent on me for support: they are now living.

My age is "46" years. I have no other property of any kind whatever, and no other income, (except a very small, poor house in Smithfield, in which I live.) This was not abandoned property. My agent, Wm F. Tyler, was in possession at the time of its seizure. I never had a child engaged in the war. No charge of disloyalty is preferred against me or mine. No libel in Confiscation has been issued against me. I am not in [[strikethrough]] any [[/strikethrough]] any manner, [[strikethrough]] or in [[/strikethrough]] or for any cause subject to confiscation or prosecution.
