Portsmouth Va, Sept. 29th 1865.

Sir:

Your petitioner David Williams of the City of Portsmouth, State of Virginia would beg leave most respectfully to represent, that the estate now owned by him or previous to the late rebellion did not exceed Twenty thousand ($20000) Dolls. in value, and consisted of a house and lot in the City of Portsmouth on the East side of Court Street, south of South Street and near the Union Bridge valued by the City assessment at Eleven Hundred ($1100) Dolls. and fronts on Court Street Thirty two feet and runs back One Hundred and eighty feet. Your petitioner does not come under any of the exceptions of the Presidents proclamation of the 29th May 1865. He has taken the Amnesty Oath under said proclamation a Copy of which is herewith filed and prayed to be taken as part of this application. He has not been engaged either in the Army or Navy of the so called Confederate states but his pursuits have been entirely of a civic nature. His age is fifty seven. He claims to be a loyal Citizen and prays that restitution may be made of the property herein before described. And your petitioner will even pray as in duty bound &c.
