   This deed made this 7th day of October 1854 Between Charles Herman and Sophia his wife of the 1st Part and Samuel Wood of the 2nd Part all of the County of Elizabeth City and the State of Virginia. Witnesseth, that the said Charles Herman for and in consideration of the sum of Six Hundred dollars to him in hand Paid by the said Samuel Wood at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said Charles Herman for and in consideration of the sum of Six Hundred dollars to him in hand Paid by the said Samuel WOod at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said Charles Herman doth by these present grant bargain sell convey and assign unto the said Samuel Wood and to his heirs and assigns forever all his right title interest and estate in and to a certain piece or parcel of land situate in the town of Hampton in the County of Elizabeth containing one acre more or less, commonly known as the "Cross Roads and bounded as follows West by the Back River Road North by the land of J.B. Sinclair East by the land of Richard C. Massone [[?]] and South by the Main road, leading in Hampton together with the privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging or in anywise appertaining to have and to hold to him the said Samuel Wood his heirs and assigns forever and the said Charles Herman covenants that he will warrant generally the property hereby conveyed
