Sir,
Much to my surpise I have been handed by Mrs. Taylor a notice from Asst Supt Johnson, requiring her to pay the Rent of No 17 Freeman Street Norfolk Va to the Freedmen's Bureau. Upon application to him and to you I am informed that the House was taken up in obedience to [[strikethrough]] General [[/strikethrough]] Special Order No 29 issued by Bt. Brig. Gen Mann - Oct 10th 1865 - By reference to the accompanying Papers you will see that that order was [[strikethrough]] been [[/strikethrough]] given [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] under a misapprehension of facts as stated by Gen Mann in his Report to Gen Terry on this matter - I respectfully ask therefore that you will take the Property from your Books and allow me as the Agent of the owner to receive all rents and revenues accruing therefrom -
