Warwick Co. Oct 2nd 1865.

Capt C.B. Wilder
Supt. Freedmen &c, Peninsula

I beg to submit the following facts for your consideration. Just before the advance of the Federal army upon the Peninsula, I resided on my farm containing about Seven Hundred acres lying partly in the Counties of York & Warwick & bounded E by Cook & W by Curtis. The advance fortifications of the Rebel Army were erected a very short distance from my residence, which stood stood directly in front of said works. I was ordered by Genl Magruder to evacuate my house which was immediately between what was then supposed and & afterwards known to be the lines of the hostile armies.

My residence was burnt by order of Genl. Magruder commanding the Rebel forces on the Peninsula of that time. After leaving my home by order of the Genl. Commanding, I removed to the County of James City, for the personal safety of myself & family, some fifteen miles distant. I have been a legally ordained minster of the Gospel for many years and I am over Fifty years of age.

I most respectfully request that the land above described, lying in the Counties of York & Warwick may be restored to me under the late order emanating from the Bureau of Washington restoring all property which has not been confiscated & sold to its rightful owners.
