Respty returned with report that the within named children were Indentured as minor orphans, both their parents being out of the state and it not being known whether they were living or dead.
Dan'l Rice has since the war been in the state several times and I have heard his statement which is that the children were his by a woman who was not his wife.
The woman has written from Richmond demanding them and I have notified the man to whom they were Indentured that they were to be given up as soon as I could ascertain who was entitled to them. I fully endorse the

favorable opinion of the Freedmen. given by Mr Taylor and hear very little complained of their not being willing to labor. The fact that more ground is under cultivation this year, than for many years, past effectually disposes of all such complaints.
