Chance J.C. Lt & A Supt Rec'd Back June 6th/66 with Report of Lt Chance Asst Supt enclosed Extract from Report Sallie & Jennie Harris remained with (after the fall of Richmond) Mr S Slaughter. They had 3 brothers & sisters. After the fall of Richmond Mr S informed the father and mother that he could not employ them all. and wanted him (the father) to come and make some arrangement for their support. The mother sent word that Sallie & Jennie was at work for the support of the three small children. Jennie would not work and was always trying to create a disturbance among the other hands. telling them that she would have her rights viz 40 acres of land. In my opinion the claim of the mother is entirely groundless. Sg'd John C.
