From 22d of May until 21st of July 1865 Officers under orders from different Military Post Commanders had the control of these buildings. On the 21st of July they were handed over to the Bureau.
Prior to 1st of August the basement only of the brick factory was used. and that for a horse stable after which the upper portions were taken for storehouse purposes. This office has no knowledge beyond slight damages done to the property either by freed men or the troops and believes than an expenditure of twenty dollars will cover all damages and then leave the buildings in as good order as when vacated by the Rebels as both had been used. for rebel hospitals. 
Since the basement of the brick factory was a ground floor and the wooden factory occupied by troops and women and children during a few summer months this office is certainly at a loss to determine how Joist, bridging, &c were damaged nor does it believe that a tenth part of the 465 panes of glass were broken either by troops or freedmen.
