Respectfully returned to Bvt Maj T.F.P. Crandon  Supt 4th dist Va Gordonsville Va. Hamilton Fletcher stated that he had a verbal bargain with Philip Johnson to which the latter voluntarily has rendered to Fletcher his services. for the time being with him, for the rent of house. victuals for him and his family (a wife and seven children) also the use of a Garden & the raising of two hogs on his (Fletchers) corn.
That Johnson only left in August having asked Fletcher for cash payment for further service, what he 'Fletcher' has refused to do, and that Johnson then took away 20 Bush'ls  of Potatoes raised in said Garden and his two hogs.
That also he 'Fletcher' had voluntarily given to Johnson. Medicine in time of sickness & medical aid. also one pair shoes and one Blanket. Clothing and Bacon & Cornmeal to his Johnsons family after they had left his premises. In all Fletcher says he does not owe anything to Philip Johnson & refused to go in for partial cash payment.

I have written to Washington twice but failed to get a reply from him. I recommend that steps be taken to compel him to assist his wife as she is needy - He should come for her or send money (over)
