Aug 6th/66 Respectfully returned through office of Supt 2d Dist. with the information that after a careful investigation of the case Mrs Mary R Kent it appears her statement is correct. On the passage through this county of Sheridan's Cavalry there was taken from the petitioner by some of these troops 27 pieces of bacon 317 1/2 lbs @ 25 cents $79.37 3 Bbls Flour @ 12.50/100 $37.50 100 Bushels Corn @ 1.00 $100.00 1 Family Horse [[blank]] $100 Estimated value $316.87 Mr. Kent, the husband of the petitioner died in August 1861. Before the War commenced and up to the time of his death, he was a firm Union man, and opposed the War openly, and used every means in his power to prevent a son from entering the Sourthern Army, but without avail. Mrs. Kent has at all times been opposed to the War, and did nothing to aid the rebellion. She also opposed her son's entering the Rebel Army. The provisions taken from her, was all she had except five pieces of Bacon which she succeeded in hiding. The estimates of the value of the articles taken is based upon the prices at the time they were taken. In my opinion, this is a just case for the relief asked.
