then at an auction room for sale. I told him to give the safe for security until Taylor was paid. 
The articles sold cost the Freedman $33.75/100 and but $15.00 was required as liquidation, which Overhalser agreed to pay. Subsequently a gentleman (whom I afterwards ascertained was Mr Wise) called at this office with Overhalser to know the facts in the case, and after hearing my statement in Overhalser's presence, told him (Overhalser) he had better let the case remain settled as it was.
The whole matter of the sale, was an evident intention to defraud the Freedman (who was too poor to take the case before the civil courts) and the statement of Overhalser in regard to not having witnesses must be intentionally false.
