Respectfully referred to Asst Com'r with information that there (142) One hundred & forty two cords wood upon the Farm for which I am accountable upon my quartermaster papers. The lumber is all in the buildings upon the farms, and all

or nearly all occupied by Freedmen.
Mr Taylor has proposed to them to rent them these houses provided the Gov't let them remain.
I am now removing the wood with all the available help I have. The estimated value of the wood where it is, is $1.75 per cord. It costs $1.50 per cord to transport it to the City of Norfolk

The "Taylor Farm" was retained under orders of the Commissioner dated Nov 21st. 1865.
The wood and lumber cut on the farm prior to the date of Mr. Taylor's Pardon, was ordered to be removed under authority of the Commissioner bearing date Nov 21st./65.

Respectfully returned with the information that upon visiting the family. I find in very destitute circumstances scarcely any clothing, and nearly out of provisions. If transportation can be furnished this family, it will save much suffering.
