Office Asst. Supt., Bureau of R.F. & A.L.
Sub. Dist. of Middlesex, Va.,
Urbanna, April 9th, 1866.

Capt. T. Frank. P. Crandon,
A.Q.M. & Supt. 4th Dist.,
Gordonsville, Va.

Captain:
Herewith I have the honor to enclose the replies of the chairman of the Board of Overseers of the Poor of this county, to your interrogatories of March 26th. It was impossible to comply with your request sooner, for the reasons given in my communication, on this subject, of the 5th inst.

In addition to what is contained in these replies, I may state that, after conversing with several of the Overseers, I am satisfied that they have, not only the disposition, but the ability to support the destitute freedmen of this county, if permitted to collect the tax levied on freed males over sixteen years of age. I had forbid the payment of this tax, while waiting a reply to my communication, of March 7th, on this subject.

Very respectfully, your obt. servt.,
Wm Linn Tidball
Capt. Vet. Res. Cor. &
Asst. Supt. B.R.F & A.L.
