P.S. The County of Amelia is now indebted for the support of its poor since spring 1864

In addition to this we would further respectfully inform you that since the above report was made our resources have been contracting continually by means of necessary consumption, and the people having very little of any thing for which they can get money, their means of supplying the wants of a number of paupers in addition to those with whose support they are already charged is cut off. So you will see that, for the present, we are unable to do anything for the relief of that portion of our poor to which you call our attention. We hope you will appreciate our conduct in the premises when we assure you that we are still as we ever have been, willing and anxious to provide for the wants of these people [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] and keep them from suffering whenever it is in our power to do so
Your third Question is as follows, What rule of action does the Board propose for their own goverment on on the whole subject of Colored paupers?
In answer to this question the Board can only say that they are only executive in their capacity as overseers of the poor, have never had the subject under consideration their powers extending no further than to the carrying out of such laws and regulations as may be made by the state. We have no plan and we would respectfuly answer that we can have no other rule of conduct for ourselves than such as by Legislative enactment, may be provided for us, all of which is respectfully submitted
