Bureau of R.F. & A.L.
Office of Assist. Supdt.
Sub Dist. of Amherst Co., 7 Dist of Va.
Lynchburg, Va., May 15th 1866.

General:
In reply to circular No 18. current series, from your Head Quarters, I have the honor to report -

First - that suitable provision having been made by the civil authorities in my sub District, for the relief of its destitute and suffering white citizens, so far as I can learn there are none such therein who require any additional aid from the United States. -

Second - that I have found none, white or colored, in the county, who require and are unable to procure the necessary Corn and other seed for planting.

The land, as a general thing, is under tolerable cultivation, the seed planted already springing up and showing favorable earnest of fair yield in the future.

Very Respectfully
Your obdt servt
W.F. De Knight 1st Lieut V.R.C. and
Assist. Supdt.
