General:
I have the honor to report that during the month of October, a large number of Freedmen (able bodied) were discharged by their employers, and are now unable to obtain employment here. It is to be hoped that this state of affairs will be of but temporary duration, but if it should continue much suffering to be apprehended among the colored people of this city during the winter.
