the cold season. Humanity demands that they should be exchanged for glass.

The jail has recently been well white washed, is well ventilated and in every way, in good repair. The prisoners state that the jailor treats them well, giving them a sufficiency of good and wholesome food. Some complaints have just reached me as to the treatment of the inmates of the Alms House (of which five are colored) by the steward, which I have not yet had an opportunity to investigate. I shall do so at the earliest possible moment, and, if well founded, will make an immediate report of the same.

Crime
Upon full investigation, I found that the Statement of the case of Infanticide, by one Angelina Robinson, reported from this office of the 3rd inst. was correct in all its particulars. As soon as her condition would permit, the unhappy mother was brought before Justices J. Alonzo Smith and Thos L. Jones and the evidence of her guilt being conclusive, she was committed for trial at the noon time. John G. Page and E. C. Morris, both lawyers of ability, have undertaken her defense, activated by
