In the counties of Henrico and Charles City the freedpeople are doing remarkably well; there is every indication of their being better provided with means to overcome a winters suffering than the preceding autumn. In the last named county the colored people say that the whites with few exceptions are unwilling to sell them land and in some instances refuse to rent or allow them to cultivate land for a portion of the crop raised thereon. A Mr. Wilson at Wilsons Landing on the James River has upward of twenty colored families on his plantation all of whom are doing well; he allows them land to cultivate and when not so employed, employs them and gives a reasonable price for their labor. If the farmers in general would only follow the honest course of Mr. Wilson
