reopened since my last report and find them progressive as when about to close for the summer months: many of the freedmen are much interested in the education of their children while others seem indifferent and are slow to realize the worth of learning. The work of temperance is gaining ground, several meetings have been held during the month with favorable results: this work I shall encourage knowing full well how important it is that the freedmen at this time should economize by leaving off their intemperate habits.
