During a corn shucking in which whiskey was freely indulged in, Williams was attacked by three or four colored men and beaten. A man named Minton the first to attack Williams was slightly cut in the hand. Williams was tried for malicious stabbing. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty, and fixed upon one years imprisonment in the Penitentiary as the penalty. A petition was forwarded to the Military Comr. to have verdict set aside and prisoner released. |
