Reports that Nelson Rosser (colored) investigated by whites, and being reported as weak minded, commenced an action against Morton Roberts et als for damages at $10000. for alleged assault committed on him by them. Pl'ff & Defend'ts are member of U.L.A. It was understood that Rosser divulged their secrets. He was requested to attend a meeting for the purpose of investigating the charges, but failed to attend, and was waited upon by two members, and accompanied them to the meeting, no force being used. The League decided to expel him, which he pleaded them not to do, and himself proposed to take a certain number of stripes. He was taken into an ante room, and his hands tied loosely for a few moments, but was not whipped. He was finally admitted into full fellowship and all went home satisfied. The case was hurried through, only taking twenty five minutes.  The defendents were not present during most of the evidence although only on C.H. green.  Jury told to retire by Com. Attorney, immediately after closing of prosecution testimony, just as thro. there was no defence. Retiring of Jury momentarily checked by one of defendents requesting to ask a question.  Request met with opposition from Com. Attorney and |
