Reports that about 11 o'clock on the night of Oct. 30th 1868, four men named John and Mark Hawkins, and John and Joseph Wilson, went to Mr. Taylor's house and demanded admittance, which being refused they broke the door down, and John Hawkins and John Wilson entered. They proceeded to beat Mr. Taylor unmercifully, and ordered him to leave the county at once. Jno Hawkins presenting a pistol to his breast, threatened to shoot him if he did not promise to leave. After remaining about one hour, the assailants left. Mr. Taylor went, as well as he was able, to the house of Mr. Scott, 2 1/2 miles distant, where he remained long enough to procure a conveyance to leave the County.
