Statement of Albert Brooks.

I am an old and well known resident of Richmond - was a slave, but bought myself, my wife and six children - Have kept a livery stable for 10 years, and have now a licence for running three carriages, signed by the military authorities, and which I was told was necessary to save my carriages from confiscation, and for which licence I paid $37.10/100, I employ several colored men and pay them $35 per month. I was arrested by the police and put into the city jail, on the plea that my pass was not good -
