Injust decision and open expressions fully consent with those who seek to deprive the Freedmen of their just due. A case bearing out this, came under my notice yesterday, a white witness testified that he saw the accused, ( a Freedman) throw a rock at a white person, and 5 reliable Col men testified he did not do so, and the Court for this defence asked for his acquittal, The Mayor in reply informed the Council "that the rule to govern, and judge of the credibility of Colored testimoney could be found in the code of 1819" The accused was remanded for indictment before the Hastings Court.

Very respectfully Your Bot Sert Benj. C. Cook Lt & Asst Supt 3d dist Va
