I am still engaged in registering the colored people of the county who have been living as man and wife persons to Feb 27th 1866.

There is now confined in the County Jail one colored woman for stealing clothing to the amt of seventy five dollar from the family by whom she was employed.

The goods were found in her possession.

There is also one man confined in jail for stealing a watch from his employer, and another man confined for receiving the watch

Adam Hamilton is still in jail his case has been reported previously -

One of the Cadets at the Virginia Military Institute (the West Point of the south) shot one of the citizens of the place a few days ago, the citizen died thirty six hours after being shot the Cadet is now confined in the county jail to await the hearing and action of the county court.

A Refugee who was confined for horse stealing was chained to the floor while awaiting trial and sentence, the Cadet having been a soldier in the Rebel army of course is entitled to more consideration, He therefore is kept free from manacles of any kind and has every comfort and luxury that a man can have under similar circumstances
