Office of Asst. Supt. B.R.F.&.A.L. Sub-Dist. of Essex. King & Queen & Middlesen Co's. Tappahannock, Essex Co. Va. August 29, 1866. Bv't Brig. Genl. O. Brown, Bureau of R.F. & A.L. General: In compliance with Circular No. 10. I make the following report: There has been two Freedmen tried in this Sub. Dist. since my last report for stealing sheep and hogs: they received a very fair trial and were convicted. the court sentenced them to one days imprisonment and to receive thirty-nine lashes, which was given them. The stolen property was found between their beds. No complaints have been made to the civil authorities by Freedmen to my knowledge. I am, General, Very Respectfully, Your Ob't Serv't Watson R.
