entiary for three years and the other to six months imprisonment in the County Jail which was the lightest sentence that is given by law in either case. The third case was tried before a magistrate in Greene Co. The Freedman was convicted of petty Larceny the penalty for which is Stripes or imprisonment or both. The magistrate sent him to Jail but the Freedmen made a request that stripes be inflicted and he be released from Jail. I have not yet been informed what was decided in the case by the magistrate.
In all three of the cases the Freedmen were tried fairly and impartially in my opinion.
