Extracts from reports of Asst: Supt's of the Bureau R.F. and A.L, State of Va, for the month of August 1866, in compliance with Cir 10, C.S, from Head Qrs Asst: Com's, Va, which calls for a report of cases tried, in which whites & blacks are the parties interested.

From Report of Bvt: Capt: D. Jerome Connolly 2nd Lieut, VRC, Asst Supt, Nottoway and Lunenburg Co's, dated Sept 1st 1866.

As an example of the manner in which some cases are disposed of I would cite the complaint of a Freedman named "Robert" who claimed $10.00 compensation for services rendered a Mr. Williams of Nottoway Co., I referred the case to Mr. Crenshaw, magistrate of same County for trial, he declined to try the case, and sent the Asst: Supt: word that the defendant was a friend of his, and he didn't wish to offend him by trying the case"
