In compliance with paragraph V Circular No 10 dated Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, Head Quarters Assistant Commissioner State of Virginia, Richmond, Va March 12th 1866 I have the honor to report that a colored boy, about 13 years of age named William he knowing no other name, came to me on the evening of the 23rd inst and reported that he had been living with one Frank Layton of this county, who lives some seven or eight miles distant from this place since the first year of the last war and that the said Layton had beaten him so that he was obliged to leave Layton for fear
