General -
I have the honor to submit the following Report in obedience with Par. 6" Circular No. 10 Hd Qrs Asst Comr State of Va.

At the Circuit Court, for Mathews County, convened on the 8th inst, Judge Christian presiding, there were two cases in which colored men a party. The first was Commonwealth vs Robert Miles (Col'd) - charged with shopbreaking & stealing. The Counsel for the accused brought not the strongest evidence to prove an alibi - that Robert was at home, and in bed, the night of the commission of the crime of which he stood charged. The evidence against the accused was such as to give suspicion - but was not conclusive. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty and sentenced the Deft. to three years in the Penitentiary. The second case was that of Roberts wife - Fanny, for receiving stolen goods. The jury could not agree upon a verdict - and at the suggestion of the Counsel for
