Sir:
I have the honor to submit the following report of the cases tried before the Circuit Court of Virginia, in this Sub. District during the current month; in which the accused were Freedmen. 
I. In the county of New Kent, as follows to wit:
The Commonwealth vs Wilson Braxton. Charge Petty Larceny
the Commonwealth vs Isaac Bird. Charge Petty Larceny

The accused in both the above mentioned cases were acquitted.

The commonwealth vs Robert Carter. Charge Grand Larceny. The accused was acquitted.
The Commonwealth vs Gilbert Harris. Charge Assault and Battery. The accused was convicted of assault and fined ten dollars ($10).
In the last mentioned case the prosecution endeavoured
