There was also a case of the Deputy Sheriff shooting a Freeman for interfering with him in the discharge of his duties, and on attempts to commit an assault and battery on him and the evidence being of such a nature he was acquitted, the Freeman is now well.

The evidence of the Freedman is received with a fair degree of Faith, and on their evidence parties have been sent to the Penitentiary for stealing.

The Freedmen's Court ordered to be established in Nansemond C. has not been accomplished, as none of the Magistrates have yet accepted the invitation to sit on the said Court. I can see no cause for the reopening of the Freedmen's Court for they receive justice from the Civil Authorities.
