Sir,
I have the honor to report in obedience to Circular No. 10 Hd 2nd Asst Comm State of Virginia, March 12th 1866 that but one trial has taken place between the freedmen and whites, before the civil court during the present month, that was a case of felony, the prisoner was found guilty and sentenced to three years imprisonment in the State Penitentiary. Afterwards it was found that one of the jurors had absented himself without the permission of the Court, and a new trial was awarded the prisoner, which will take place at the Circuit Court in March next. the freedman is out on bail. I attended the trial, it was conducted throughout with fairness and impartiality.
