instead of giving the case the proper attention that it justly demanded, he advised and urged the complainant not to prosecute the matter, but to abandon it, that he would gain nothing by it &c. And he (Tillman) finally persuaded Terk to drop the matter but his (Turk's) wife stoutly refused to let the matter go in that way with no redress; when at last, said Tillman, the magistrate, said he would bind their (Harrison & Gray) to keep the peace (which, however he did not do) if they (Terk & wife) would go no further & not bring a suit for damages.

These facts I have gathered from said Terk Rivis, col'd & sustained by reliable witnesses, who were at this office but yesterday.

I endeavor to assist the said Terk Rivis, col'd, in bringing a suit for private damages against the said Harrison & Gray, but I wish some instructions in regard to the manner in which Stephen Tillman J.P. treated the complaint.
