Office Asst Supt
Burkevill Feby 21/67

Connolly D. J.
Bt Capt & Asst Supt.

Reports one Mr Lacy beating Fitzgerald a freedman and upon a hearing of the case before Messrs Royal & Hadaway, Magistrates, after taking evidence for prosecution and defence, but omitting that of Fitzgerald himself, they dismissed the case with costs of $2. to the freedman. Upon their attention being called to their neglecting to take the evidence of the complainant, (it being the most important of any) they said "it wasn't necessary to hear it, they knew how the case was."
