The wound that the freedman Jim Preston received seems to have been produced by a large ball which entered the integuments just below the posterior margin of the right Axilla and passed between the skin and the fifth rib and made its exit about two inches below the right nipple & about four inches from its entrance. There seems to be no injury to any organ within the chest either directly or by concussion and no disturbance of the general system through sympathy. It is my opinion that he is in no danger except from such consequences as may follow any wound.

This opinion is derived from an examination of the wound two days after it occured and also today about one week since he received it.
